Ishan Kishan Makes a Sensational Comeback to Indian Cricket Team After Two Years

In a heartwarming redemption story, Ishan Kishan has made a sensational comeback to the Indian cricket team after two years. On December 20, 2025, the BCCI announced the 15-member squad for the upcoming five-match T20I series against New Zealand and the ICC T20 World Cup 2026, with the explosive wicketkeeper-batter earning a well-deserved recall.

Kishan’s journey back to the national side has been one of perseverance and sheer dominance in domestic cricket. His last appearance for India was in November 2023 against Australia. Following a controversial break citing mental fatigue, he lost his BCCI central contract in 2024.

The turning point came in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) 2025/26. Captaining Jharkhand, Kishan led his team to their maiden title, finishing as the tournament’s highest run-scorer with over 517 runs in 10 innings at a staggering strike rate of nearly 197. His breathtaking century in the final against Haryana—off just 49 balls with 10 sixes—sealed a historic 69-run victory and silenced doubters.

Reacting to his selection, a delighted Kishan said, “I am very happy,” while also celebrating Jharkhand’s triumph. Chief selector Ajit Agarkar praised his form, noting Kishan’s aggressive top-order batting as a key factor. He joins Sanju Samson as the second wicketkeeper in a squad led by Suryakumar Yadav, with notable omissions like Shubman Gill and Jitesh Sharma.
